Overall, this series is about embracing a relationship with God through understanding the Trinity, experiencing His love, and allowing this to transform one’s life and relationships.
Video 1, “The Trinity Reveled” introduces the concept of God as the creator of the universe and explores how different religions seek to understand this creator, followed by how the Bible uniquely reveals God as a Trinity—Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. Although this concept is challenging to fully comprehend, it is central to Christian faith and life.
The baptism of Jesus provides one of the clearest declarations of God revealing Himself as three distinct persons in one. Jesus makes numerous statements to His disciples asserting His unity with God the Father, and accepts the declaration by one of His disciples after Jesus’ resurrection, that Jesus is both Lord and God.
While there is difficulty in comprehending the Trinity, the virgin birth and resurrection are no less incomprehensible. This unique revelation by God of Himself is one of great beauty and practicality. This sets the stage for deeper exploration of why the Trinity is essential to the Christian faith.
Video 2, “The Trinity is Love” explores Jesus’ bold statement that the Father loved the Son from before the world began, that is from eternity, thus defining a key attribute of God’s nature, namely, eternal love.
A contrast is made between the Trinitarian God and a lone god in that the latter could not truly embody love, as that love would depend on creation making that god dependent on creation. In contrast, the Christian God is self-sufficient in His love, making him unique.
The significance of this eternal love extends to humanity, who are created in God’s image. This implies that love is a central aspect of human nature, reflecting God’s own essence. Indeed, the universal theme of love in music, poetry, and relationships underscores its foundational role in our lives, stemming from God’s very nature. Just as we desire intimacy in human relationships, so God likewise made us to have an intimacy with Himself.
In Video 3, “The Father Sends Jesus”, looks at how this intimacy has been disrupted due to the rebellion of Adam and Eve, who doubted God’s goodness after being tempted by Satan. This initial rebellion has led to a distorted, self-centered love within humanity, resulting in a broken image of what we were meant to be. Our selfishness and inward-focused love deviates from God’s intention, leading to a state where love for God may be absent and where our love for each other is greatly diminished.
Despite this brokenness, the Trinity does not abandon us. God addresses this by sending Jesus, who, as part of the Trinity, shows us not only what God is like but also what we are meant to be as beings created in His image. There is, however, a dilemma. If God is just, the rebellion against Him deserves punishment, indeed, an eternal separation from His presence as God is Holy. Humanity cannot rectify this on its own, only God can. In the next vide God’s divine plan of redemption unfolds.
Video 4 “The Trinity Pays the Price” dives into the central Christian belief of how God, through the Trinity, offers a path for humanity to be reconciled with Him. Jesus willingly took on the sins of humanity, died as a ransom for many, and endured separation from the Father during His crucifixion. This act is seen as the ultimate sacrifice, demonstrating God’s immense love. The Video also explains Jesus’ resurrection, which affirms His divine nature and role as Savior.
This salvation is a gift, offered out of love, and requires only belief and acceptance of Jesus’ sacrifice. God in his love and generosity goes further, He sends His Holy Spirit as a gift to those who believe, allowing them to be spiritually reborn and transformed into the image of God.
Other religions place a burden of obeying laws, and man’s effort to attain perfection in obeying them. The Trinitarian God instead takes the initiative offering an intimate, loving relationship and transformation through grace.
Video 5 “The Trinity – Our Response” focuses on encouraging viewers to respond to God’s love, which is exemplified by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. It calls for a personal decision to turn towards God, accept forgiveness, and allow the Holy Spirit to dwell within, bringing new life and a transformed heart. This transformation shifts the desire away from sin and enables one to delight in God’s presence.
Jesus’ teachings on the 2 greatest commandments focuses on loving God and one’s neighbor. These are central to Christian living. True love stems from God’s unselfish love for humanity, which is transformative. Rule-following without this can only lead to despair. Salvation and transformation are desired by everyone, but only the Trinity provides this.
Understanding the Trinity leads to an appreciation of God’s character, which in turn affects how believers view love, salvation, and relationships. In other words, we should be able to delight in the Trinity. It is the central foundation of Christianity and impacts how believers live, love, and relate to God and others. It also draws people into the faith.
Michael Reeves’ book “Delighting in the Trinity” provides a much more detailed look at the Trinity and is highly recommended.
